APHG-301, a new topical agent for androgenic alopecia : an 24-week open-label clinical trial
Androgenetic alopecia is an extremely common disorder affecting both men and women. The incidence rate of androgenetic alopecia seems to be gradually increasing. The slow, involuntary loss of hair creates emotional stress for millions of men and women. Recent works have attempted to find effective and safe agents for hair loss treatment. APHG-301 is a newly developed product which mainly contains Thuja orientalis extract, pyrrolidinil diaminopyrimidine oxide and cyanocobalamin. These ingredients were known to have the anti-hair loss activities and to stimulate hair growth in laboratory setting.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of APHG-301 for treatment of androgenic alopecia. Twenty-three Korean patients with androgenetic alopecia were enrolled, instructed using the investigational product twice daily for 24 weeks. Efficacy parameters like changes in hair density or mean hair diameter were compared by phototrichogram. At baseline, mean hair density was 163±28 /cm2, and hair thickness was 51±12 ㎛. After 24 weeks, hair density was increased to 180±31 /cm2(p<0.001), and hair thickness was also increased to 57±13 ㎛(p<0.007). No serious adverse reactions were observed.
In summary, this clinical study demonstrates that APHG-301 can be a useful and safe agent in the treatment of androgenic alopecia.
