The 6th World Congress for Hair Research was held at the Cairns Convention Centre, Cairns, Australia from 16-19 June 2010.

The Congress was a resounding success, attracting over 300 delegates from around the world. It delivered a stimulating and informative scientific program and an exciting social program that provided all participants with an opportunity to interact with colleagues and friends in the relaxed tropical environment.

The opening oration was delivered by Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Doherty. Awarded the Nobel in Physiology or Medicine in 1996, Professor Doherty set the tone for all aspiring researchers with his guide to winning the Nobel Prize.

A major highlight of this Congress was the Sponsored Orations. The Ebling Lecture, sponsored by EHRS was delivered by Professor Ralf Paus and entitled ‘Neuroendocrinology of the Hair Follicle’. The North American HRS Lecture entitled ‘Hair Follicle Stem Cells in Alopecia’ was delivered by Professor George Cotsarelis , the Japanese HRS Lecture was delivered by Dr Yukata Shimomura on the ‘Molecular Basis of Inherited Hair Disorders’ and the Korean HRS Lecture was delivered by Professor Seong-Jin Kim on ‘TGF-? Signalling’ Pathways. Professor Rod Sinclair delivered the George Rogers Oration on behalf of the AHWRS on ‘Pattern Hair loss’.

With over 200 accepted abstracts from the four corners of the Globe, the 6th World Congress of Hair Research provided a platform for hair biologists, wool scientists, dermatologists and hair transplantation surgeons to develop a deeper understanding of the science of hair growth in health and disease.

The Organising Committee wishes to thank all of those who participated in the 6th World Congress for Hair Research with particular thanks to the Chairpersons, Keynote Lecturers and Oral and Poster presenters whose contributions to the scientific program made the meeting exciting and interesting for all of those who attended.
